"Well, duh. Your libido issues were most likely related to your previous malnourishment. "

Troll much? Are you always this hostile or are you just starving for attention? I never stated I had any libido or nourishment issues to begin with, only that these things have improved. Perhaps you have reading comprehension issues since I did say, "already high libido."

"you’re obviously eating more fat and calories than you were before."

Sigh. You really have no clue and should probably educate yourself before spreading more disinfo and nonsense.

maurice: Apologies for the year-late reply. My diet's specifics are always changing, but I've managed to cut out a lot more dairy/egg in the past year. Still mostly fresh, raw fruits and veggies, and I think the sugar available in them is responsible for a lot of the energy boosts I've experienced.

"think about all of the Buddhist monks who have to remain celibate. They are vegetarians."

That's actually completely false. Buddhist monks and even the Dalai Lama are not vegetarian nor vegan.

"Monastics adhere to a limited diet- a small breakfast and then lunch, with nothing after that. They have no right to demand, "I want this food or that." Whatever they are offered on daily rounds of begging, they must accept. Thus Buddhists monastics are not necessarily vegetarian; whatever they get, they will eat. That is the training of contentment regarding food, it alleviates anxiety about get this or that kind of food."

the above quote is on page 65 of How to Practice The Way to a Meaningful Life, written by His Holiness the Dalai Lama

i am a lacto-vegetarian, been a vegan as well as a lacto-ovo before. I have to say that, my body has high sex drive but I myself lose interest in it. Struggling to get rid of the body's call for sex because psychologically, I'd rather do something more productive than masturbate. Even when having sex, i feel it's more like a fantasy game rather than a body game. I can't get relieved when having sex but masturbating. Any ideas?

"Well duh"!! WTF? You are retarded. It has been widely researched and proven that a lack in Zinc and Protein in a vegetarian diet are directly related to loss of sex drive in men. So take a zinc supplement and eat TVP, Rice, Beans, and peanutbutter. All these answers seems very informed to me except for yours.

Vegan diets in men are associated with slightly *increased* levels of testosterone, but with a slight increase in SHBG, which cancels out any benefits over T levels in animal eaters. Try searching pubmed sometime.

"My husband became totally disinterested in sex, after he turned vegetarian....That was about 20 years ago. " Well, duh. Twenty years has an astronomical effect on T levels and libido in men on every diet.

"I went lacto-ovo veggie 9 months ago and my already high libido has SKYROCKETED....I was too skinny before and since the elimination of meat I’ve been gaining weight, requiring much less sleep...." Well, duh. Your libido issues were most likely related to your previous malnourishment. Fats and calories are available in plenty to people on all types of diets. If you're putting on weight now, you're obviously eating more fat and calories than you were before. You could have done the same thing on a vegan diet.

This post, and these comments, are all uninformed.

hi pete
plz leave us a few details of your diet. I have been wanting to switch to veg options but hate to let it affect my sex drive in any way. And if you say it is making you more focussed I'd like to try it out.

I went lacto-ovo veggie 9 months ago and my already high libido has SKYROCKETED.

I don't know the nutritional values of what I eat, I just try to have a variety and eat as much fresh & raw fruits and veggies as possible.

I was too skinny before and since the elimination of meat I've been gaining weight, requiring much less sleep, have more energy, endurance, am way more focused at work, and am a happier / less-moody person in general.

I'm searching around for reasons why this diet has had such an increase on my sex drive and I keep getting results that show the opposite.

My husband became totally disinterested in sex, after he turned vegetarian. We were having sex about three or four times a week before he changed his diet. That was about 20 years ago. He has no desire, at all, any more
Think about all of the Buddhist monks who have to remain celibate. They are vegetarians. I have wondered about the animal fat being an issue, for quite some time. I think that the Chinee doctor may be on to something. It makes sense, to me.
