Living in a Crocodile House

Wednesday
Sep 17,2008

It has to be a cultural thing, and one that I don’t get. Some guy in Ivory Coast built a house in the shape of a crocodile. I mean, I know the song “Crocodile Rock” but a house built out of rock shaped like a crocodile?!

Seriously, where do people come up with ideas like this?

“Hey, Kalo! Where you going?”

“I’m going home to be eaten.”

“You mean you are going home to eat?”

“Nope, I am going home to be eaten by a crocodile.”

“Huh!?”

Every night the builder of this house feeds his family to the crocodile he built for them to live in.

“And, here in the nose of the house we have a single bedroom. While back in this portion of the beast is the depository, if you get my meaning.”

Eddy – the Giant Lobster

Tuesday
Sep 16,2008

I didn’t learn to eat lobster until I was in the Navy. We were riding the Midway, a baby air-craft carrier that carried only about 4,000 people. After a long exercise, as in war games, we were steaming home. The sign on the officer’s mess said “Surf and turf.” Lobster and steak. I have loved lobster ever since.

Speaking, um, writing of lobster … off the coast of Cornwall at Eddystone Reef in England a giant lobster was caught. And, given the very uncreative name, Eddy. Eddy was donated to the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay. Better there, I suppose, than part of a meal for 4,000 hungry sailors, eh?

Eddy’s claws are about 18″ long. This is longer than a normal lobster. I wonder … what size steak would you put alongside Eddy. We love animals here at GP. Yum!

China Buys Two Whales from Japan

Tuesday
Sep 16,2008

An aquarium in China bought two whales from Japan.

I like animals, don’t get me wrong. But, do I want to tackle a whale, roll him and her over to find their, um, parts, then get sperm from the non-sperm whales, however that might done, then find Miss Whale and inject her with Mr. Whales juice. Nope, not me. Uh uh. Let somebody else do it.

Seriously, I don’t get it. Who comes up with the ideas of helping animals do the reproduction thing? The Chinese bought the whales for about $125k. Maybe, it’s about the money. I can’t figure out why anyone else would do it, can you?

Quick, what goes zzub, zzub, zzub…

Answer: A bee flying backwards.

What goes buzz, buzz, zzub, zzub, buzz, buzz, zzub, buzz, buzz…

Answer: A whole bunch of bees going every which way and then some.

A truck carrying a bunch of hives collided with a farm vehicle and overturned. The result was the bees got lose, swarmed all over and stung three people to death. Firefighters had to be called in.

Some brave soul even thought to take a few pictures, after which s/he was likely stung, then swelled up into the size of a blimp.

So, tell me, if there were bees swarming everywhere and people were dying, would you get your camera out to record it?

Unicorn Photographed in Congo

Monday
Sep 15,2008

A unicorn-like creature, doe-eyed, relative of the giraffe with zebra-like strips, and also known as the okapi was photographed in the wild in the Virunga National Park.

The male has two horns that look like one when viewed from the side, making some think the okapi is related to the mythical unicorn. Yeah, right.

The photograph is good news says the zoological society and conservationists. The animals have survived poaching and war in the lawless Congo. For a long time, the area was controlled by armed militias.

“We’ve managed to get pictures of three separate individuals, and we’ve also got a picture of one roaming around at nighttime and actually foraging, which is the first evidence of this behavior.”

The biggest obstacle to survival of this unique creature is poaching and war. What was it that they say in Jurassic Park? Life will find a way. GP hopes that we humans will stay out of the way of the survival of all animal species.

Locals in Nepal are at a loss to explain how some 3,000 trees in a nearby forest in Banke, mid-western Nepal, collapsed in about 10 minutes.

The trees at the Shrikrishna Community Forest, some 360 km west of Kathmandu just started tumbling down. There was no gale, no storm that day. Just falling trees. Not knowing what to think or who to blame/give credit for, the locals are turning to supernatural theories.

“It’s a bad omen.” And, the District Forest Office (DFO) is taking no initiative to see if an UFO or otherwise was involved.

Spooky, eh? What could cause 3,000 trees to start tumbling down? Aslan maybe?

If somebody is going to commute by taxi, a solar-powered taxi, you might want that somebody to be someone with influence, someone who can reach the world. Louis Palmer of Switzerland created a solar-powered taxi for use in New Delhi. Good for him, the UN Chief, Ban Ki-moon of South Korea commuted to work aboard the solar-powered vehicle to promote alternative energy sources.

GP wants to know why only one day? Why not every day? Why does promoting alternative energy sources have to be a once in a while thing and not an all the time thing?

Okay. I admit, it’s better to do it sometimes than never. And, if the UN Chief can do his part to get the word out, the world will be better for it, no?

Where to find the best gas prices by zipcode?

Well, if we can’t convince people to not use gas, at least we can give some advice on where to buy cheaper priced gas in other words as John McCain would have us not do – not send $700 million each year (or is it billion?)  – to countries that don’t like us.

There is something wrong with that picture, if you ask me. Buying from people who don’t really like us.

About the gas prices and zip codes you can start here or you may want to try GasBuddy

But don’t believe everything you read or find online. This link told me the cheapest stuff was $3.879.

Right down the street, I can get it for $3.799. What’s up with that? GasBuddy knew that.

The best bet … go green, battery powered … no?

Now that we do know a bit about Matt Damon, Sarah Palin and the dinosaurs, another celebrity is taking on the Alaskan Governer saying “I can’t stand her. She can suck it”. Suck what, you may ask …

However, the most interesting part is who made this juicy political commentary and why? Well guys, Pamela Anderson did in an E! network interview after being told that governor Palin has a large bearskin rug in her office.

I’m not sure how good/much she understands politics, but the pink vegetarian definitely took the bait on that one and proved that her opinions on politics are meaningless, too, I’m not sure how good she is on environment policies or if she’s just interested in animals or not, but I do have a question.

Her (probably) sudden love for animals is because she needs a better image to cover her porn history or does she really want to do something for our furry friends? Wanna guess where I put my money on?

We really think your body, hair and everything look great on you, but how about refraining yourself from political statements dear? Check out Pam … doing it.

Just for the record, Anderson is a PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) activist, and you already know what we think about their protests. Stand up people (girls)! Better get right to the point like Pam did.

Sometimes words are not needed to explain a picture, right?

I guess this is what feels like to be in a Zoo with all the people staring at you and lots of sun. Add to all these a lot of fur and you have a really unhappy polar bear. At least they gave him some ice cubes to lean on. I can even hear the poor guy saying “I just wanna go home, where I have lots of ice, lots of snow and lots of below 0 degrees”. Do we need polar bears in Zoo just to look how cute they are?

One last thing. I don’t know who owns the copyright for that image but anyone knows who the photographer is I’d like to know so that I can give him full credits.
