The government of Canada is doing its best to increase the popularity of hybrids and electric cars. In Ontario, a decision has been made to issue special “green” license plates to such vehicles, giving them various privileges on the road. One of the benefits is the use of recharging stations, as well as special parking spaces.

Drivers however will most likely be excited about another rule, which allows them to use the carpool lane even with a single person in the car. This will be valid until 2015, so it’s quite a benefit to consider if you don’t have a hybrid yet.

More and more governments in the world are realizing the impact of vehicles on nature, and are doing their best to promote cleaner transportation methods. Giving perks like this to drivers of green cars is one of the best ways to do it, and we’re getting closer and closer to the 5% mark in drivers of green vehicles. It’s just a matter of time before the majority of people realize their importance as well.
