An American Acryl facility near Seabrook, Texas reported a huge explosion in the morning at about 8:50 am local time. The explosion at the chemical plant set off a huge plume of smoke into the atmosphere, while some eyewitnesses also claim to have seen a “ball of fire going up in the air.” Fortunately, no one was seriously harmed or injured in the Seabrook Explosion, and firefighters appear to have brought the fire in control in about an hour as no smoke was seen at the explosion site by that time.
The blast also involved a chemical called toluene, a toxic substance that can cause nausea and tiredness. Seeing the situation, the administration asked residents to shelter in place, but the recommendation was soon lifted. Later, the company stated by means of a recorded message that the blast had not released the chemical.
The said plant is spread in 65 acres, and produces 120,000 ton of Acrylic acid each year. The acid is used in manufacture of a number of commonly used products like disposable diapers, inks and adhesives.
