LG was surrounded by some controversy lately, when it was discovered that some of their refrigerators did not meet the Energy Star criteria, which resulted in the label being taken off about 20 of their models. LG apparently won’t let the matter stand though, as they’ve decided to counter the Department of Energy’s actions by filing a lawsuit against them.
According to LG, the DOE should have been more clear in the criteria for an Energy Star ranking. LG have been very active in developing green products lately, with their latest one being the E2350VLED, a 23″ PC monitor packed full of green features.
The monitor passes the IEEE 1680 benchmar with a Gold level, thanks to its design which allows about 90% of its parts to be recycled after the monitor has reached the end of its life cycle, and the same goes for its packaging, which is 90% recycleable as well.
The removal of LG’s green labels could spell disaster for the company’s popularity amongst green consumers, so it’s understandable that they’re doing whatever they can to fight the DOE’s decision.
