homeway1 Homeway: An Idea for Sustainably Powered Mobile Housing

Homeway is a very interesting concept that would change the way we live, if it ever reached somewhere close to the realm of reality. The idea is to put houses on mobile platform, with enough sustainably generated energy to power the system.

The idea from Mitchell Joachim and Terreform would see suburban areas in a state of motion. Houses would move towards the city center/ city core during the day to attend to work, and would simply move away once the work is done.

“Intelligent” renewable infrastructure would be added to reinforce the highways. The Homeways would move across the land on these roads, and moving from one city to another could actually mean taking your home along.

But it’s not just the homes the creators of Homeway are talking about, nearly every structure could become transient. That includes movie theaters, supermarkets, and even power plants. The concept is a far cry that isn’t ever likely to see the light of reality, but it is food for thought anyway.
