The government of Sri Lanka hopes to make the capital city of Kandy an eco-friendly destination say reports. The capital is a hill city of historic importance and the country wants to retain the majesty of the ancient prestige that it is steeped in. This announcement came at a historic venue – the Temple of the Tooth (Dalada Maligawa) on Sunday morning, when the President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa, was there paying homage to the site. The President called upon the chief prelates of Malwathu and Asgiri, after he participated in the religious rites at the Temple.
The grand festival of Sri Lanka – the Esala procession is all set to be held at Kandy later this month and the President announced that a organized motor traffic plan would e implemented to ensure that traffic would be smooth despite the busy events of the Festival. The official figures put an amount of 400 million rupees as having been allotted for various developmental activities that have taken place over the span of the last four years in the Central Province.
