The fair is aimed at bringing together eco-industry specialists from around the world to offer the business sector’s solutions to climate change.

It provides platform for service and product suppliers of eco- industries to exchange market information and develop new growth areas. The first event in 2009 featured over 200 exhibitors and was attended by visitors from over 100 countries

This year it coincides with the C40 Hong Kong Workshop titled as ‘Low Carbon Cities for High Quality Living’. The C40 is a group representing major cities around the world that have made a commitment to tackle global warning and climate change.

The whole is based on two themes: buildings and transport, with a special focus on retrofitting existing buildings, new-build best practices, and on electric vehicles.

Besides hosting the fair, the Chinese government has incorporated various plans for cutting its carbon intensity by 40% to 45% by 2020.

The Hong Kong authorities are working closely with the Guangdong provincial government on the Chinese mainland to transform the Pearl River Delta region into a ‘Quality Green Living Area’. The region is forecast to be a $12 billion market for environmental technology, goods and services by 2018.
