The 20th annual Environmental Media Awards organized by the non-profit Environmental Media Association was held at the Warner Bros. The eco-friendly award giving ceremony was attended by many celebrities. The ceremony honored many television shows and films for pioneering eco friendly awareness programs and accomplishing remarkable initiatives. The function itself featured a ‘green’ carpet instead of the usual red carpet as a symbolic representation of its green motives. Jason Ritter and Olivia Munn hosted the star-studded ceremony.
Ted Turner was honored with a Lifetime Achievement award for his long term pledge to ecological responsibility through his years in multi media. Jeff Skoll was awarded the Corporate Responsibility Award for his works through his production company Participant Media with Oscar nominated and winning documentaries like ‘Food Inc.’, ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ and ‘The Cove’. James Cameroon was awarded for his most acclaimed film of the year ‘Avatar’. Other winners were ‘30 Rock’ and ‘Living with Ed’.
Jane Fonda, Natalie Portman and Amy Poller also joined the event and made it delightful.
The evening was sponsored by Toyota Prius and Lexus along with environmentally friendly companies like Brita, Energy Extreme and vegan restaurant Real Food Daily. Stila make up and Avena skin care sponsored the gifts of the event which included a silent auction with exciting stuffs such as skiing trips and ski diving packages.
The function was exemplary of showcasing the confluence of the reach of media, popularity of Hollywood and the concern for environmental issues. Awards were given in the categories such as feature film, documentary, television drama and comedy series, reality programs, children’s live action and animation. The show highlighted the participation of Hollywood and appreciated its ability to educate as well as inspire viewers to take a more active role in the area of environmental awareness.
