Philips is bringing in a new illuminating low-energy alternative bulb with the promise of doing way with the over 425 million 60 watt incandescent bulbs sold annually. The new Philips  AmbientLED can effectively replace those bulbs and can provide the same illumination as a 60 watt white light incandescent at 12 watts.

Boasting of a life of 25,000 hours (that could also mean that you won’t have to change bulbs even once a year), the new innovation from the Philips labs will help save sizeable amounts of electricity bills.

Philips says that each AmbientLED bulb will be able to maintain a light output of 800 lumens. As compared to a standard incandescent bulb, the AmbientLED will use only 20% energy.

The best part, besides cutting down on power bills, is the fact that the new Philips product will work with all standard table lamps and ceiling fixtures. You will also be able to dim the lamp to personal tastes.

The green product will also help in reducing environmental and carbon costs related to sourcing materials, product manufacturing, transportation and disposal.
