The green hotels of Costa Rica have been conferred with eco friendly designation from Travelocity Website. It features hotels that had received the Certification for Sustainable Tourism (CST) from the Costa Rica Tourism Board. The CST program is a product of the Costa Rica Tourism Board (ICT) which analyses the tourism sector in the country based on their achievements regarding the sustainable model of natural, cultural and social resource management.
Travelocity does not accept “self-certified” hotels. The eco-friendly leaf is awarded to hotels or resorts that have been certified by second- or third-party green hotel certification programs whose standards closely align with the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria (GSTC) through an independent audit.
The website shows these hotels marked within the normal shopping path with the easy-to-spot “eco-friendly hotel” leaf. This tag allows travelers to compare similar hotels by location and price. Thus they can judge which one among these is more eco-friendly as compared to others.
Costa Rica is widely known as one of the top eco-tourism destinations in the world. The country insists on setting high sustainability and eco-friendly standards to so many hotels across it.
The new recognition by Travelocity will definitely benefit the travelers who seek eco friendly advantage and will also aid in setting a global example for sustainable tourism.
