The news from the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show venue is always interesting, right? This time we have spotted a new e-bicycle from the Ford arena. The e-bike concept will be a useful and apt means of urban transportation. And, importantly, the concept is also a way to reduce depletion of fossil fuels, pollution and save the earth.
The mechanics of the e-bike is something fascinating. The two-wheeler powered by a drive system comprises a 350 W electric motor in the front wheel hub, a 9.3Ah lithium-ion battery, an integrated controller and patented magnetostriction sensor technology from the world of Formula One.
In the bicycle industry, this one is the first one to come with the magnetostriction technology that converts magnetic energy into kinetic energy and vice versa.
The sensors sense the revolutions in the inner bearing and send directions to the control unit. The control unit triggers the electric motor, giving boundless power of the legs along the power of motor.
The Ford E-Bike comes with aluminium and carbon fiber body weighing 5.5 pounds, a carbon fiber Giant SLR stem, Selle Italia SLR XC saddle, Mavic Elipse wheels, Shimano Alfine 11-speed internal gear hub and Shimano Rapidfire shifters.
The wheels have a six-spoke V design and are capable of creating a clean, minimalist appearance. The handlebar-mounted screen will display the trip information, thereby allowing the rider to switch into the three support modes – Economy, Comfort and Sport.
The bike boasts 15.5 miles per hour top speed and comes with a riding range of 53 miles. This could vary according to the modes. You can also see the battery capacity, speed, time, service reminder and system diagnosis on the mounted screen.
