Going green to save money in the long run

December 6, 2011 / No Comments

We all know how important it is nowadays to go green to save the planet. We’ve been encouraged for years to switch appliances and electrical items off at the wall, to fill the kettle and the bath more sparingly or, more effectively, scrap the bath altogether and opt for a quick shower every morning.

While going green at home goes some way to saving the planet, it can also save you a lot of money on your bills. To begin with, the best thing you can do is compare gas and electricity prices online and see if you’re on the best deal for your particular circumstances. It is often the case that you are spending more on your bills than you need to, so it is worth just comparing to check: you could end up saving a fair chunk of money.

Everybody loves saving money and anybody who tells you otherwise is lying. Saving the planet as well as saving money is even better. You might not notice the savings immediately, but caring about the planet can reap financial benefits for you and your family in the long run.

Try to get your whole family in on the act, so you can save as much money as possible. Perhaps it would be a good idea to give them a bit of an incentive, like a bigger and better family holiday, to give the money saving a little push forward.

It’s the simple things that make a difference when it comes to saving money and energy around the house. Make sure everybody in the household is aware of the difference that switching lights off when you leave a room makes because even this, over an extended period of time, can have a significant effect on your bills. It might not seem a lot at the time, but little things like this make a big difference.
