Ricky Gervais, the English comedian, actor, director, producer, musician, writer, and former radio presenter, is currently on a mission to protect animals from cosmetic testing. He leads the Cruelty Free International and is an avid worker in the same.
Cruelty-free is a social movement that seeks to avoid all products of cruelty. In 2012, the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) joined with the New England Anti-Vivisection Society to establish a new international organization to campaign against the testing of cosmetics on animals called Cruelty Free International.
This was launched by BUAV supporter Ricky Gervais. They organize certification of cruelty free products which are marked with the symbol of a leaping bunny.
The video to accompany the launch shows Gervais in mellow mood, stroking a bunny rabbit, and lamenting the number of animals potentially killed in the process of testing a shampoo.
Although some countries have moved towards testing their toiletries and cosmetics in other ways without using animals, there is currently no worldwide ban imposed on those practices.
A Cruelty-free website has also been developed for integrate with Facebook and Twitter, as well as featuring a campaign call to add their voice to the cause.
Some time ago, Ricky celebrated two major victories after a ban on using wild animals in circuses was passed in Britain and officials blocked plans to build a dog farm in the UK to breed beagles for lab tests.
