It’s common to see the hybrid variant of a car having better fuel-consumption compared to its gas guzzling siblings. But it’s somewhat uncommon to see a hybrid variant to be quicker to 60 than the gasoline variant. This is the case with the new BMW ActiveHybrid 3 that features the latest-generation BMW ActiveHybrid technology.

The model comes with excellent features that offer up to 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. It has got 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline six and electric motor combination. The 225 kW/306 hp six-cylinder in-line engine with BMW Twin Power Turbo technology in the ActiveHybrid 3 is the same as that in the 335i model.

The automaker claims that the hybrid can travel up to 2.5 miles on electricity alone at 46 miles per hour. Fuel efficiency is considered to be of about 40 miles per gallon on the EU test cycle. We expect the US EPA figure vary from that figure.

The lithium ion battery pack of the vehicle is made up of 96 individual cells with a rated output of 675 Wh. It is placed in the trunk. Power is sent to the rear wheels from the dual drivetrain through an eight-speed automatic gearbox that shares its outer casing with the 55-hp electric motor.
