BMW Recalls 1 Series ActiveE Over Power Steering Worries

July 11, 2012 / No Comments

BMW is recalling the 1 Series ActiveE and 2012 Z4 vehicles. This was announced by BMW and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It seems that variations in electrical current may occur within the electric power steering assistance system, leading to sudden loss of power steering assistance. This could potentially lead to a crash.

The ActiveE was just delivered to a paying customer in January of this year and the units of this model are only available in Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, New York, Boston and Hartford and CT.

Owners of the cars will be receiving notification shortly. The company said that the defect will be fixed free of charge and the dealers will replace the steering assistance module.

The safety recall is expected to begin this month itself. Owners can also contact the customer relations of the company for more details at 1-800-525-7417.
