Audi has shown off its much-awaited five-door version of the third-generation A3 hatchback. Christened A3 Sportback, the new car will make its appearance at 2012 Paris Motor Show later this week.
Sporting looks similar to Audi’s three-door cousin, the new vehicle boasts a subtly evolved interior elegance, longer wheelbase and more interior space. The new machine sports admirable weight savings of around 198 pounds than its predecessor.
The long and lean Audi A3 has 14.14 ft of length, 5.84 ft of width and 4.68 ft of height. The wheelbase measures up to 8.65 ft. The unique stone gray single-frame grille with the angled upper corners placed at the front of the vehicle gives it a hot look.
It also features optional xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights. The Audi A3 Sportback comes in 13 different shades like three solid finishes, eight metallic finishes and two pearl-effect finishes.
The A3 Sportsback will be packed with a single TDI engine and two TFSI engines and all of them combine a six-speed manual transmission.
As part of the Audi e-Gas project, the A3 Sportback will sport a bi-fuel powertrain, which uses electrolysis to generate hydrogen. It is then mixed with carbon dioxide to create methane or natural gas.
The A3 is also charged with a 13-gallon gasoline tank that can provide the machine an effective range of around 745 miles. It is powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine which features injectors for both natural gas and gasoline. You can choose between the two modes while driving.
Look for the new Audi rendering at Paris in a while.
