Kia Soul EV to Hit US Streets in 2014

While the 2014 Soul is still in the testing phase, rumors say that Kia will wheel out an electric variant of the next generation subcompact hatchback.

Though the electric variant of the Soul will be the first Kia EV in the US, it will not be the first EV of the company. They have introduced Kia Ray EV last year which has a range of up to 86 miles on a single charge.

Kia’s European Vice President of Marketing has confirmed the arrival of its electric variant of 2014 Soul.  The test models have already been snapped up near the company’s Russelsheim, Germany technical HQ.

The prototype exhibits fabulous styling with a prominent grille and larger headlights. The unique box car is already a hit in theUSmarket.

The electric variant of the Soul is expected to roll out with better performance and sportier looks. We can also expect renovated interior, convertible and three-door GT models.

As per the rumors say, the Soul’s boxy bonnet will hold an all-electric powertrain. The soul EV will probably challenge other ultra-low volume EVs including the upcoming Fiat 500 BEV, Smart Fortwo Electric Drive, Mitsubishi i-MiEV, Nissan Leaf, and Honda Fit EV.

The electric model is expected to arrive on the streets in 2014 and can be expected to make a debut next year either at the Chicago or New York Auto Show.
