Tesla Model S, one of the quickest American four-doors ever built, drives like a sports car and is instantly responsive. The sporty, efficient and spacious car is as light as Rolls-Royce and can carry as much cargo as a Chevy Equinox.

In addition to this, it is more efficient than a Toyota Prius. The Model S, which begins at $57,000, is an all-electric sedan that received a government-certified for being able to go 265 miles on a single charge.

Two elements of the Tesla Model S that were considered by Motor Trend officials were performance and efficiency. The Tesla S offers three battery choices–40 kWh, 60 kWh, and 85 kWh that are boast to provide 140, 200, and 265 miles, respectively. The powertrain of this all-American electric sedan delivers a 416 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. With this, the vehicle can race to 60 in just 4.0 seconds.

Tesla Model S is the first to win the Car of the Year title in over 60 years to not be powered by a combustion engine. The company plans to make 20,000 cars next year.
