The Lexus LF-CC coupe, which made its appearance at the LA show, is receiving the green light for production. First seen at the Paris show in September this year, the LF-CC is expected to arrive in the showrooms by 2015.
A senior Lexus engineer has been entrusted with the project and serious work will begin on the production engineering at the beginning of 2013. The company plans to build an exciting and emotional model, which would reflect the sporty image of Lexus.
The company has plans to study building a compact SUV similar in concept to Land Rover’s Evoque. But, the idea is still under consideration because the company doubt whether such a model can fit in with Lexus’s future direction.
The car will probably come in both coupe and convertible formats and ride on the automaker’s new modular rear-wheel drive platform. While the new IS and GS models will probably use the IS’s shorter wheelbase and the GS’s wider track.
The vehicle is thought to be using a tweaked version of GS 350h’s hybrid drivetrain. According to the Lexus sources, the company hopes to place the new model into the space vacated by the old SC coupe-convertible, which was discontinued in 2010. Lexus’s first SC coupe was launched in 1991.
