The new Volkswagen e-up! – the first all-electric vehicle from VW – will make its debut today at the Annual Press and Investors Conference in Germany. Although the vehicle unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, this one is the fully electric production vehicle.
The e-up! is a four-seater car that offers a driving range of 93 miles and can be quickly recharged to about 80 percent within 30 minutes.
It has an 18.7-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor offering 60 kW of peak power. It takes at least 14 seconds to speed up from 0 -62 mph, yet promises a top speed of 84 mph. The vehicle weighs just 2,612 pounds which helps it achieve this impressive speed range.
Moreover, Volkswagen offers its Combined Charging System (CCS) in the e-up! that supports both DC and AC charging, and allows users to easily charge their vehicles at all most every charging station.
The e-up! has a curved layout with the LED daytime running lights in the front bumper and sports an aerodynamically optimized front end, side skirts, and underbody.
The official public debut of the e-up! will be at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show later this year.
