As per reports, IIT Madras, the premier educational institute in the nation is all set to be a part of the World known CERN Experiment.

With this achievement, IIT madras became the first IIT and the first educational institute in South India to become a part of this global experiment.

Earlier, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Mumbai, Baba Atomic Research Center, University of Delhi and University of Punjab were also selected to be a part of these experiments.

Prafull Kumar Behera, Physics Professor in IIT Madras aspired that the connection between SERN and IIT M will act as a mirror which will expose the talents and expertise of IIT pupils.

The IIT Madras will take part in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment which played a crucial role in the discovery of Higgs Boson.

The CMS is a part of the Large Hadron Collider, SERN.

The selection of IIT Madras to this global experiment is undoubtedly a recognition to the whole educational sector in India.

The IIT will be now a full member of the CERN and the institution will be trying hard to make use of this golden chance.

The Phd students in the institution will be working in the physics lab, whereas the undergraduate pupils will take part in small summer projects.

Students in the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Departments will get a chance to work in data analysis, grid computing and high-end detector building in the SERN.
