Bangladeshi scientist Firdausi Qadri nominated to UN bank panel

Renowned Bangladeshi scientist Dr.Firdausi Qadri has been nominated to UN Technology Bank Panel. The news has been confirmed, and United Nations announced that the formation of this Bank Panel will access the scope and functions of the much awaited ‘Technology Bank’.

The mesmerizing lady scientist is currently working as the director of the Centre for Vaccine Sciences at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh.

The main aim of the bank panel will be helping the downtrodden nations to emerge out from the clutches of poverty.

A statement from Ban Ki Moon, the UN Secretary General proclaimed that this bank will aid the structural transformation and sustainable development of the Least Developed Countries (LDC).

A K A Momen, Bangladesh’s representative at the United Nations told that the country has proposed this technology bank’s headquarters to be established in Dhaka in 2011, when Ban Ki Moon visited the country.

He added that the country will try its best to make Dhaka the headquarter of the Bank or at least a regional branch.

Romain Murenzi, former education minister of Rwanda will head this much celebrated bank panel. The ace physicist is currently the Executive director of TWAS (The World Academy of Sciences ), Italy.

The other members in the panel includes, Mohamed H.A. Hassan (Sudan), Bruce Lehman (Tebello Nyokong (Professor of Chemistry and Nanotechnology at Rhodes University, South Africa), Posh Raj Pandey, Dorte Olesen, Michèle Duvivier Pierre-Louis (Former prime minister, Haiti), Fang Xin (China), Hakan Karatas and Gyan Chandra Acharya.

As per reports, the new Bank Panel will hold its first meeting on February, 2015.
