Prince Albert II of Monaco is actively involved in conservation of the environment, and the Prince Albert II Foundation has 127 projects in various countries, dedicated to working towards renewable energy and access to water, and also fighting threats like desertification, loss of biodiversity and climate change.

Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere, and nearly half of its population does not have access to clean water.

To combat the problem, Matt Damon announced at the Clinton Global Initiative that his charity Water.org will commit $2million towards the cause. The charity will help secure safe water and sanitation for nearly 50,000 people in Haiti and the project will be executed over 3 years.

Former Miss World and Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai has reportedly fallen ill and there are rumors  that she may have contracted swine flu.

The news of  Aishwarya’s illness was disclosed by her father in law Amitabh Bachchan thru his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com, the post said

“Aishwarya has taken ill and is down with chest infection and flu like symptoms”,  “had a high fever yesterday but is settling down today” he wrote on his blog from Singapore.

Bachchan also wrote that  “It’s worrying to be so far away from children and not be there to look after them. Yes, they are mature and married and responsible, but children will always remain children!”

Aishwarya Rai along with husband Abhishek Bachan is currently in Ooty and was shooting for her upcoming film “Raavan“.

While  papa Obama was signing deals with the Russians to make the world a little less safe by reducing the stock piles of nuclear weapons, 11-year old Malia Obama was doing her part to spread the message of peace – beatnick, hippie-style.

Now, if that nuclear power was being used for energy purposes and to reduce our global dependence on fossil fuels. All the better. I wonder how that idea would be represented on a T-shirt?

Justin Timberlake, 28, the American pop singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor, recently bought an old golf course and invested $16 million to renovate it.

He has renamed the course that he bought – Woodstock Hills – as Mirimichi Golf Course.  It opens on July 25, 2009

Sir Paul McCartney, former Beatle, and his family and a few other celebrities have embarked upon a commendable campaign asking people to abstain from meat and go vegetarian once a week in order to help fight climate change. Sir Paul, his daughters Stella and Mary as well as the celebrities have urged everyone to forsake meat on Mondays.

The campaign, named Meat-Free Monday, is aimed at reducing emissions of greenhouse-gases from the world’s livestock population. Livestock is believed to be one of the main causes of global warming.

Okay we need to say it out loud. We don’t know for sure if Mayor Michael Bloomberg is actually a vegetarian, but if the New York Post has it right, he probably is. Apparently after visiting the Brooklyn Navy Yard last week, Michael Bloomberg went for a feast at Morton’s Steakhouse in downtown Brooklyn. And what a feast! Onion soup, broccoli and grilled asparagus! He did sample the treats, but refrained from eating any meat and was “strictly vegetarian.” Would that make New Yorkers happier … ? [via Ecorazzi]

In their own unique way that borders the realms of craziness, PETA has once again managed to attract the world’s attention to an issue that they feel is worth highlighting. Knowing how pop culture and big stars bring with them great publicity, the organization had requested Pet Shop Boys to change their name to Rescue Shelter Boys so that cruelty towards animals is reduced and adoption of pets is encouraged! Are we the only ones to thing they’re stupid AGAIN?

Not too surprisingly though, the band politely refused PETA Europe’s plea but noted that the cause was still worth highlighting.

PETA had suggested the name change stating that it would promote millions of the bands fans to consider giving a home to an abandoned or unwanted animal from an animal shelter. And with the news now hitting the tabloid, they might have achieved what they set out to do anyway!

So what is next in line? Asking Carcass to change its name to Butterflies and Bumblebees? In case you are wondering, yes, Rescue Shelter Boys is still an available band name for anyone who wishes to start a new band. You game? [via Ecorazzi]
