Do you own a home entertainment center that is the envy of the neighborhood? Do you have friends or neighbors chide you that the only GREEN in your living room is the color of the larger than life Eagles football players seemingly doing their end zone dance at your feet?

If the above is true or you just want to save some energy, I have the device for you. At just under $500.00 (a pittance if you have a home entertainment center with big-screen plasma displays and a thumpin’, bone-rattling sound system) This power distribution unit protects all your equipment from brownouts and blackouts (Like California experiences on most hot summers). It also protects against surges and other nastiness bent on destroying your equipment.

The PowerCenter has some cool features:

The power protection completely disconnects your equipment from the power source and monitors the hot and neutral lines for abnormalities. It will not connect you back until all problems are resolved.

It has an IR receiver for complete remote control.

It protects all your telephone, cable and satellite cable connections.

The PowerCenter™ (HD IR 2550) provides clean power filtering and ground loop isolation for noise-free audio and video presentations.

The front panel provides additional power outlets behind a door and provides USB connections for camcorders, iPods and other devices.

It has PLC (Power Line Communications) support so it can interact with other equipment over your house AC lines.

Best of all, they have “Green Power which completely powers down the equipment when not in use so you can save energy plus also extend your equipment life. So, only power up your entertainment system components when you are using them and be kind to the environment and still be able to enjoy life.

If you are financially challenged in this economy, do not despair! You can have a nice power controller for under $130. The Monster GreenPower™ HDP 900G PowerCenter™ is for your more modest entertainment setup.

Although I’m not a vegetarian I’d like to take the time and wish anyone who is a Happy World Vegetarian Day.

Happy World Vegetarian Day

Most of us probably agree that what we eat affects our lives and it’s true, a vegetarian diet might actually be healthier. Of course there are people (like me) who probably wouldn’t do without meat on their daily diet, for them, vegetarians around the world have a really simple test. How about a meat-free diet for 24 hours, just to see that it can be done?

World Vegetarian Day is observed annually on October 1st. It is a day of celebration established by the North American Vegetarian Society in 1977 and endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978.

It’s a proved fact that animal farms help create more methane and nitrous oxide than any other industry in the world. The same reports say that if an American wouldn’t have their meet once a week, it would be just as good as taking 500,000 cars from the US roads. More to it, raising animals is a way of generating land and water pollution and a factor to deforestation. Add to the whole lits of things above, the fact that it’s cruel to kill the animal and you already have a nice recipe for becoming a vegetarian.

And if that didn’t got you convinced, at least we can wish every vegetarian out there a Happy World Vegetarian Day.

Meanwhile, we’d like to know if you’re vegetarian or not? Why yes and why not?

Sir Paul McCartney, former Beatle, and his family and a few other celebrities have embarked upon a commendable campaign asking people to abstain from meat and go vegetarian once a week in order to help fight climate change. Sir Paul, his daughters Stella and Mary as well as the celebrities have urged everyone to forsake meat on Mondays.

The campaign, named Meat-Free Monday, is aimed at reducing emissions of greenhouse-gases from the world’s livestock population. Livestock is believed to be one of the main causes of global warming.

In an interview, Sir Paul McCartney told The Independent newspaper of Britain that having one designated meat-free day a week is a meaningful change that everyone can make and that “this goes to the heart of several important political, environmental and ethical issues all at once.”

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has estimated that production of meat is responsible for 18% of greenhouse-gas emissions. Compare this with an estimated 13% of greenhouse-gas emissions from transport!

Linda, former wife of Sir Paul, was an active campaigner for vegetarianism till she died in 1998. An array of meat-free dishes bearing Linda’s name are still being sold.

Besides Sir Paul’s daughters – fashion designer Stella and photographer Mary – the celebrities who are backing the Meat-Free Monday campaign include the Coldplay band’s lead singer Chris Martin, Hollywood stars Kevin Spacey and Woody Harrelson, actress Joanna Lumley, and billionaire-tycoon Sir Richard Branson.

Well, Monday is a great day to start with – then there is Tuesday, Wednesday…

We shall wait for more meat-free days.

Seriously. Cameron Diaz is the new celebrity face for the environment.
Here’s what I learned -

She drives a Prius.

She is politically outspoken and dedicated to sustainable living.

She recycles – “If it’s yellow leave it mellow, if it’s brown flush it down”

She uses offsets for carbon neutral travel

She is mindful of choosing beneficial products, like those that contain recycled materials.

She actively participated In Al Gore’s slideshow training by asking questions and staying around for evening events with the others.

She participated in the initiative Save Our Selves (SOS) – The Campaign for a Climate in Crisis.

“If [everyone] just changed one aspect of their life, if they just did one thing differently, that alone is a step closer to solving the problem,” says Diaz of the message the group is trying to deliver. “This problem can be solved.”

Cameron participated in the MTV program ECO Trippin.

She attracts green meaningful gossip – “In a feature on ABC News, Diaz spoke about the need for people to invest in green living and not just hop on board because it happens to be popular right now.”

Cam is a member of the Environmental Media Association and has filmed public service announcements, with fellow greenie Gwyneth Paltrow, about the importance of conserving energy.

Now … can we get her a topless Prius?

Hollywood actor and former model Cameron Diaz has made public how she contributes her bit to the well-being if environmental by conserving water in her toilet!

Cameron Diaz at Jay Leon, explains how she flushes the toilet

Cameroon Diaz, the strikingly attractive female starring in The Mask and There’s Something About Mary, opened up at NBC’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno: “It’s one of those things that is just a lifestyle choice. I was brought up that way, so it’s something that I automatically do. I’m rigged that way.”

On “green” flushes (which was, apparently, discussed beforehand with Jay Leno), Cameroon said: “I do follow the ‘If it’s yellow leave it mellow, if it’s brown flush it down’ saying. I believe in that 100%. However, there are a couple of rules. You can’t go more than two or three times, if it’s consecutive, if you’re drinking a lot of water, without flushing. But if you have coffee or something, it’s going down.”

Well, not everybody could be amused by Cameron’s concept of conserving water in the bathroom. But, one has got to appreciate the fact that she dared to bare her method anyway.

Any followers? [via Ecorazzi]

Earth is an awesome movie produced with the help of world’s best nature filmmakers, and Disneynature the first film label that has been introduced by Walt Disney in over 60 years. That in itself, should convey the significance, seriousness and the efforts that Disney is taking up.

However, unlike many other movie makers who make sweeping documentaries that only promote awareness, these guys decided to go a step further and offer all movie lovers to make a difference in a small yet worthy fashion by adding more trees to the planet. That means that If you go to the theater to watch it, Disney will plant a tree on your behalf in Brazil.

Disney has identified that the Brazilian Atlantic Forest is a sensitive and delicate ecosystem where only 7% of the original tropical rainforests is still intact today. That’s why this is where they’ll plant the trees, nurture them and ensure that the forest is replenished.

Apart from being part of a great and moving visual experience come April 22, when the Earth hits the screen, you can also do your little bid to help save the planet. Of course you can plant a tree yourself, but that’s also uber-cool… Kudos to Disney!

Cat of nine tails made into a skirt, ivy for stockings, leaves for covering things up, flowers for adornment, bamboo sheaves for I don’t know. Isn’t it possible that some people are trying too hard to capitalize on the eco-friendly trend.

PETA is at it again. After demonstrating against bullfights, this time they decided to pick on the most successful designer to come out of Italy, Giorgio Armani. The PETA Angels waved their placards saying “Be an Angel for Animals. Ditch Fur!” just in their underwear. Guess the only thing that kept them warm where those angel wings that probably did miracles.

The result? They turned at least one guy green. He really looks like understanding the cause for which these girls went out naked. Check the pictures below, but be advised that your boss may think they’re not that safe for work.

Reduce, reuse and recycle is the eco-mantra of the environmentally conscious and nothing shouts out green better than recycling old stuff into useful products. The utility goes up by a couple of notches if that recycling ends up producing some real sexy lingerie for women. This may not be the most wearable fabric in the world, but eco-lingerie crafted from recycled old cans is surely a spotlight stealer in its own unique way.

Crafted by designer Ingrid Goldbloom Bloch, this special range of lingerie is bright and bubbly with the silver and the red that it sports. There is also a handbag that seems to be a far more sensible option for something that can be useful on more practical basis.

The idea might be crazy, but it surely helps further promote green awareness with its bold new statement.

This fabric surely does not breath, but it works great for a handbag though! – via Gizmodiva

This is weird. In China the girls are wearing recycled newspapers as part of their fashion.

University students can be seen wearing the fashion creations in the southern city of Haikou in South China’s Hainana Province. I suppose that’s one way to get students to read a newspaper.

“Hmm…I wonder what I am going to wear today?”

“Why not try the sports page, or the entertainment section?”

“Yeah, and you’d look pretty good in the funny papers or the classifieds.”

Fashion students in the local university were the designers. I suppose that one could buy a newspaper for a $1 and make several disposable outfits out of it. Now, where’ my water hose when I need it?
