Shooting with a camera is probably the best way to help conserve nature. Nothing inspires you more than a magical photograph that conveys the beauty, majesty and sheer brilliance of each of nature’s very special creations.
The annual British Society of Underwater Photographers / DIVER Print competition (for the best British print) has thrown up some of the most astonishing and simply amazing pics of the world that lay hidden in the depths off the British shoreline. The contests saw some of the very best underwater photography come to light and one look at not just the winning snap, but the other one’s that made the top 10 remind you of what we would miss if we don’t preserve and nurture natural ecosystems.

This year’s winning photo is of a male Corkwing wrasse building a nest, by Robert Bailey. The fish is scurrying around the reef to find a place of nesting and then carefully collects the best looking seaweed to decorate it. Yup, that’s the “mate” doing some home decoration to make sure he gets a date.
The other impressive snaps include a fireworks anemone casting a shadow of death on a lobster, painted Goby waiting with its mouth wide open, a fearsome looking Wolfish ruling the dark crevices, a John Dorry in all its spiky majesty and the thriving reef in all its brilliant colors.

Of course, there are a lot more magical moments on offer and the whole competition not only produces images that make you go ‘wow!’, but also force you to sit up and take notice of nature conservation.

This is one shooting spree we highly recommend and love, but there’s a question to ask in the end. Did any of the animals been mistreated? Is it wise to “invade” their space and take pictures of their lives? Don’t do to others what you wouldn’t do to yourself …
You say potato, I say poh-tah-toe. You say tomato, I say purple cancer-fighting tomatoes. Seriously, I can’t imagine how people can have the gall to think they can improve on the Creator’s original product, but British researchers have announced that they have a genetically engineered tomato that is part pizza topping and part berry.

What’s more, the finished product has helped prevent cancer in mice and the finding was published in the journal Nature Biotechnology. The researchers learned that cancer-proned (they get that way from eating genetically altered food) lived significantly longer than animals who didn’t eat the purple tomatoes.

The mice were genetically altered to develop cancer and die within 142 days. Given the tomato, they lived 182 days. Um, how about we don’t give the mice anything that will cause them to get cancer and see how much longer they live, huh?
“The next step will be to take the pre-clinical data forward to human studies with volunteers to see if we can promote health through dietary preventive medicine strategies” said research leader Prof Cathie Martin from the John Innes Centre in Norwich.
The main finding – people can significantly improve their health by making simple changes to the daily diet. Gosh, eat right and exercise and you will live longer. – via DailyMail
In the same category with the recent PETA protesters that tried to make a statement , we have someone that got better ideas. He’s really on the next level.

To oppose against building the third runway at Heathrow, Dan Glass of London’s climate group Plane Stupid, unsuccessfully tried to superglue himself to the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s jacket, when they shook hands.
“Do not worry - this is a non-violent protest. We cannot shake away climate change like you can just shake away my arm. We can beat climate change, but this is not going to happen by planning the world’s largest international airport at Heathrow” he said.
Apparently Gordon Brown didn’t seem to take the poor protester serious and laughed off of his way of making a point.
Though he was allowed 40 more minutes after the trick (he was forgiven?) Mr. Glass tried it once again, this time at the gates of
Is this a good way to protest or maybe he tried to get shot by one of the MI6 guys?
Though we’re not really fans of an expanding Heathrow, he was either brave or stupid. We’re still debating on that matter.
