Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison claim to have found clean hydrogen fuel in the unholy mix of zinc oxide crystals, water and noise pollution. Researchers say that the process will not require any catalyst like oil, and will manage to be fairly efficient. Which makes it quite a winner, with noise pollution being quite ubiquitous in our world, using it to generate clean fuel sounds simply great.

Stop the dependence on oil is the rallying cry.  Are there alternative, alternate fuel sources to oil?

oil war

There are. Here are 12 of them …

  1. Wind poweris a converted form of solar energy. The atmosphere warms differently. Hot air rises, reducing the atmospheric pressure at the earth’s surface, and cooler air is drawn in to replace it. The result is wind.
  2. Solar power – concentrating solar power systems, passive solar heating and daylighting, photovoltaic systems, solar hot water, and solar process heat and space heating and cooling.
  3. Tidal power – Energy produced by tidal waves

Madrid - Plaza Cibeles

With 1.8 million cars counting for 75-percent of the air pollution, Madrid is one of Spain’s most polluted cities. Recently the City Hall announced that their official vehicles will “turn green” by 2011 using clean fuels like bio-diesel, ethanol, natural gas or even running on electricity. Madrid also joined the BEST (BioEthanol for Sustainable Transport) European project to promote the use of ethanol in cars and is going to make agreements with taxi companies to offer them road tax discounts if they will turn green, too.

Such decisions could make people realize that something has to be done if we want a cleaner air. We can start with our cars.
