Whenever I want to be reminded there is hope for the world, I look for a baby. We have a 10-month old now who is full of life and desire and curiosity and anticipation and and….

Staff at Belgrade Zoo are showing off two new white lion cubs. They are the first of their rare species to be born in Belgrade. Ah, and they give hope to the animal world that all can be okay.

Mom is a white lioness, Masa. Pop is a regular-color lion, said the zoo manager. White lions are not a separate species, neither are they albino. These genetically rare cubs are unique to the Timbavati area of South Africa. There were born on Tuesday.

White lions don’t usually make it in the wild because they are considered divine by local people and a valuable prize by hunters. If the religious don’t get them the guys skipping Sunday services will.  In 2004 a study counted only 30 of them in the African wild. In order to keep the species going, they have been bred selectively for generations in zoos across the world.

Hmm…keeping a species going requires a breeder. Interesting…interesting.

My wife and I have a new baby at home. Mia. She will be 10 months old in a week or so. She is pleasant and smiles delightfully every morning as if she is so happy to be alive. What a joy to see her each day. In a word, she reminds me there is hope for the world. Of course, there is.

Two more new little fellows made their first appearance at Adventure World, an amusement park in Wakayama, Japan. The twin panda cubs were born to giant panda Rauhin. The female (left) was named Meihin, and the male (right) was named Eihin. They were born in September. Most of all, they help remind us there is always hope for the planet.

After the incredible commercial on global warming with animals that “give up”, I think it’s refreshing to take a look at some babies … cubs, kitties, little fellows. There’s something about the hope in the eyes of a newborn, human, animal or otherwise that gives us reason to think that everything can still be okay IF we change our ways.

Two Persian leopard twin cubs made their debut at the Budapest Zoo, last week. One of the little fellows came out shouting: “I want a world to grow up in! Please stop destroying our world. We live here, too!”. Or some other sentiments to that affect.

Seriously, is there anything else that can make us feel better about the world than something as precious as these youngsters? If so, please put a link here in the comments to tell us about it. – via Sina

Anjana is a two year old chimpanzee that plays a surrogate mother role for two 21 days old white tiger cubs that had to be separated from their mother due to safety reasons, when a hurricane flooded their sanctuary.

However, that’s not the only case. China York the care taker at The Institute of Greatly Endangered Species in South Carolina, along with the help of Anjana, who has been with her ever since the day she was born. Together they take care of many such animal babies

“Anjana has been with China, side by side, ever since she was born and has joined her in caring and raising baby animals,” said Dr Bhagavan, founder of TIGERS. She began copying everything that China did, so this is how her caring instinct was born. Today, the motherly chimpanzee bottle feeds these babies and forms a close bonding with them making them feel as though she was their own mother.

After seeing these pictures I remember childhood and the way I was hanging out with my friends. We used to walk and walk, with no set destination. Apparently that’s what wolf cubs do, too.

Bjørn and Birgit Sandberg were on a holiday at their cabin in Rendalen, Norway, when six wolf cubs – about two months old – paid them a surprising visit after feasting on a moose in the woods. “There’s clearly been a party here. There were only bones left” Bjørn Sandberg told Aftenposten.no on Tuesday.

They’re supposed to be the offspring of a wolf pair from Østerdalen, that wandered westward.

It was the first time Bjørn and Birgit saw wolves and though they were aware they may be adult wolves in the area they grabbed the camera and got all the six wild wolves pups in a sensational picture. First one in Norway.
