China’s police in Liaoning province (look it up – map of China) are fighting bad guys AND fighting global warming at the same time.

Talk about dudes! Instead of patrolling the streets in gas guzzlers, the good guys will be found making the rounds on self propelled two wheelers … en masse, en force … on bicycles, that is.
So, is China going back to being the land of the bicycle? It’s not a bad idea considering how much of the world’s resources China is using up right now. Now, if we could just get the bad guys to ride bikes, too, we’d be in business.
Seriously, GP salutes China and her police if they are able to keep law and order and not use up any more of the world’s resources than absolutely necessary.
So, NYC, SFO, Paris! Are you guys reading this?

The Miss Earth 2008 Competition is happening in Manila, where 85 beauties from around the world are declaring their campaigns for a ‘green lifestyle.’

Asia has some of their best – Miss China Zhou Yingkun, 22. Miss Macau Qian Wei Na, 22, Miss Thailand Piya Porn (her real name) Deejing, 20, Miss Singapore Ivy Leow Kian Peng, 25, Miss Philippines Karla Henry, 22, Miss Taiwan Tsai Yin Yin, 19 and Miss India Tanvi Vyas, 22.
I don’t know if you think these girls and their display of unity for a green lifestyle motivates you think green thoughts, but I sure like looking, um, thinking about it at their expense. At least they are not the PETA girls.

Obesity levels in China are rising fast or at least that’s what a recent study published in the July/August issue of the journal Health Affairs, said. More than a quarter of the adult population started eating more and more meat and dairy products which lead to serious health problems.
“What’s happening in China should be seen as a marker for what is going to hit the rest of the developing world if we fail to act,” said study author Barry Popkin, a professor of nutrition at the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina.
“We need to find the right investments and regulations to encourage people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, or we risk facing higher rates of death, disease, and disability and the related costs,” he added.
Because people’s diets have changed over the last few years and they’re no longer rich in vegetables and carbohydrates and the Chinese no longer engage in physical activities they’re doomed to get fat and to die of cancer and coronary heart disease.
Among developing countries, Mexico is the only one to have more fat people than China. Can you imagine a fat world? That’d really be a disaster.
I still have a question though. Why is Buddha fat?
