My wife and I have a new baby at home. Mia. She will be 10 months old in a week or so. She is pleasant and smiles delightfully every morning as if she is so happy to be alive. What a joy to see her each day. In a word, she reminds me there is hope for the world. Of course, there is.

Two more new little fellows made their first appearance at Adventure World, an amusement park in Wakayama, Japan. The twin panda cubs were born to giant panda Rauhin. The female (left) was named Meihin, and the male (right) was named Eihin. They were born in September. Most of all, they help remind us there is always hope for the planet.

Atlanta Zoo Adds to Panda Boom

new panda born - atlanta zooPandas may be in short supply in Sichuan, China, where they come from. Earthquakes may be chasing them about and such.

But, elsewhere, Pandas are making a comeback … well, sorta.

The first panda born in the US this year was born in the Atlanta Zoo.

The little sex-to-be-determined critter’s sister, Mei Lan, is a couple weeks shy of her second birthday.

Zookeepers are still hoping there’s a twin inside yet to come out. “Jacob? Are you in there?!”

The sex of the newborn will be determined in a couple of weeks, sometime after mom lets them touch the cub. Until then, STAY CLEAR OF THE MAMA PANDA!

Well, this mama panda seems to be a bit frisky. I wonder if they have been taking videos to pass around the panda world to get others in the mood? What is it with Pandas anyway? I bet the fellas are game.

How do you say in Panda language, “Not tonight, I have a headache?”

Just for the records, that follows last week’s Panda artificial insemination at the Oji Zoo, in Japan

A Giant Panda gave birth to a cub in Japan at the Oji Zoo. It was the first time in 20 years that a panda cub was successfully bred by artificial insemination. Two experts came from China’s Sichuan province to help with the procedure. Apparently the sexy panda videos didn’t work.

The last panda bred by artificial insemination in Japan was in 1988 at Ueno Zoo. The sex of the newcomer is not known. The little critter is just 25 cm long and weighs just 100 grams. (10″ 3.5 oz)

Parents are Dan Dan and Xing Xing. Panda’s in captivity often have low sex drive. I reckon I wouldn’t be too interested in doing “it” either if everyone was watching, would you?

China wants to lease two pandas to Japan’s Ueno Zoo since Ling Ling died but the doubters question China’s good will intention. Can’t have good intentions, now can we?

What do you think of helping animals to breed?

If you build it they will come. If you stage them, they will come. If you put the pandas on display, they will come.  Beijing has brought 8 Giant Pandas to the city and put them on display for Olympic visitors and elsewise. Since June 5th, more than 1 million people have come to see the ambassadors for sport, the Middle Kingdom and everything else China wants them to represent.

So, what about using animals for material gain or otherwise? Sure, the animals are cared for, but I don’t think for a minute that they are getting their share of the money spent by those one million visitors. What’s that 20,000 visitors a day, 800 an hour 13 each minute. Five second look at a panda…NEXT!!

I’ve never been too much into zoos and putting animals on display for the benefit of the keepers and all those around. How about you? Is this another human, um, panda-rights violation example? Where’ s those topless PETA protesters when you  need them?

Twelve-year-old giant panda, Guo Guo, who was relocated after May’s devastating earthquake in the Sichuan province of China gave birth to twin cubs on Sunday. She became the first panda to bear cubs since the disaster and the first to give birth around the globe this year.

The elder of the two small pandas weighs only 170grams.

Guo Guo was one of the six pandas evacuated from the Giant Panda Research Center in Hetaoping to breeding bases. After traveling more than 100km during gestation, the evacuation process turned out to be exhausting and Guo Guo got medical attention as soon as she arrived in the new shelter. Congratulations to the new mother which has also managed to give birth each year for the last three years.
