If you remember in Part 1, I set the table and server up the hors d’oeuvres, appetizer plates, and salads of harnessing Herricanes (If you don’t remember, STOP!  Go back and read Part 1 before continuing).  Now I will serve up heaps of real meat and continue the anger management presentation. Kathryn Siranosian published a blog entry about Hurricane Rick and she got me to thinking.  While I believe it should be named Himmicane Rick and that has nothing to do with this article, hurricanes could be good for the energy business.

Omega Indoor Hydroponic Gardens

Indoor Hydroponic gardens usually are big and hungry energy sucking installations, with abnormally high electricity usage. The Omega Hydroponic garden though, is a different variety all together as Vancouver based Omega Garden’s Carousel System aims at more efficient use of energy, with claims of higher food yield as compared to conventional hydroponic gardens.

New York is one of the most glittering places in the United States, not just for its opulence, but for the glowing lights as well. What is hurting though is the large chunk of energy consumed on a daily basis to power those lights. With the judicious use of energy becoming a priority to help cool the earth it is mandatory to think of greener solutions in the Big Apple.

New York has worked out a plan to meet 45% of its electricity needs from renewable energy sources by 2015. The scheme also would create 50,000 jobs, according to David Paterson, Governor of New York who made the announcement in a speech at the New York Academy of Science.

One of Paterson’s pet projects is developing new batteries required to tap solar energy and wind energy. “Whoever learns to store energy in the United States first will replenish their economy for years to come,” said Paterson.

More every day the number of record-breaking hot summer days is increasing. Ice bergs are melting and some geographic regions experience unusual waves of heat.

This trend has created a high air conditioning demand for houses, hospitals, hotels, workspaces and other commercial buildings. People turn to the conventional air conditioning systems; however the problem is only getting worse because the AC is an energy-guzzler.

Russian nuclear suit

Russian nuclear suit

Russia says it is likely to sign a pact with Japan on nuclear power plant.

Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Russia, told the Japanese media in Moscow that he expected to sign the agreement during his visit to Japan this week.

The Russia-Japan deal on nuclear power plant would be one of the many agreements that the two countries would be signing during Putin’s visit to Japan.

It may be noted that Japan and Russia are at present in the final stages of discussions over an agreement to promote what has been described as “non-military use of nuclear power” – like for generation of electricity.

Japan’s Kyodo News has reported that the proposed pact between Russia and Japan on nuclear power plant will result in Tokyo entrusting Moscow with uranium enrichment and also allowing Japan to export technology to Russia.

But do we get any guarantees that the new technology is clean, sustainable and cost-effective? Or is this just a new friendship between the world leaders?
