The mute victims of the oil spill in Kiwi land are looking for help! Penguins caught in New Zealand’s recent oil spill incident are in need of sweaters to keep them warm. Animal lovers are calling for sweaters that will help them stay warm until they are well enough to be scrubbed down. The sweaters will also prevent the oil from getting ingested into their feathers while preening.
It is a sad fact that about a thousand penguins, including birds from New Zealand’s native blue penguin population, have already been killed due to the oil-spill.
A yarn store has already posted a free pattern to knit the sweaters. There are many people who have come forward to save the birds’ lives.
This is not the first time there has been a call for sweaters for penguins.
The Tasmanian Conservation Trust decided to bank some penguin jumpers in the event of future oil spills.
They wanted about 100 sweaters, and they got 10 times the required amount of sweaters. Now, hundreds of sweaters are being received by the yarn store.
